DBP Development Group achieves Practical Completion of the Wheatstone Ashburton West Pipeline

February 17, 2015

DBP Development Group (DDG), 100% wholly owned by DUET Group, is pleased to announce it has achieved Practical Completion of the Wheatstone Ashburton West Pipeline (WAWP).

DDG signed a 30 year contract to build, own and operate the domestic gas pipeline for the Chevron-operated Wheatstone Project in September 2013 and construction commenced in April 2014.

The WAWP project included:

  • refurbishment of DDG’s existing 87 kilometre 10 inch pipeline from Ashburton West to Compressor Station 2 on the Dampier to Bunbury Natural Gas Pipeline (DBNGP);
  • construction of an 87 kilometre 16 inch pipeline (loop) alongside the existing 10 inch pipeline; and
  • construction of a new 22 kilometre 16 inch pipeline, connecting Ashburton West to the Wheatstone Project’s domestic gas plant.

Practical Completion of the project was achieved in late December 2014, with 123 TJ/day of capacity available for commissioning of the Wheatstone Plant when it is required and initial forward haul gas transmission capacity of up to 337 TJ/day when the Wheatstone Project moves into production.

The WAWP project was completed on time and below the budget cap under which DDG earns a return on capital expended. It was also completed with an excellent safety record including no medical and lost time injuries.

DDG CEO Stuart Johnston said the project would not have been a success without the support of Chevron Australia, the Department of State Development, Department of Lands, Department of Mines and Petroleum, the Buurabalayji Thalanyji Aboriginal Corporation, pastoral leaseholders and the main contractors, Monadelphous KT Pty Ltd and Enerflex Process Pty Ltd who worked together to deliver this important piece of energy infrastructure.

“We are very pleased to have DDG complete its first gas transmission development project in such a successful manner. We look forward to building on this initial success as we seek to provide pipeline infrastructure solutions for our customers,” Mr. Johnston said.
